STRATA’s conceptual design combines a new adaptive secondary mirror, a new laser system, port-specific wavefront-sensor packages, and a shared software architecture.

KASM is a new adaptive secondary mirror that is always on, with 3500 actuators.

LAVA is a new laser system with more than four lasers. Laser asterisms are configurable from 12″ to 16′.

Wavefront-sensor packages serve each port: Cassegrain (CASS), KAPA+ as a left-Nasmyth upgrade, and Right Nasmyth (RNAS).

The project uses a shared, open-source software and real-time control architecture.

The design described here is conceptual and will evolve.
